Simplicity or Flash... its a no brainer! 04/18/2010
 I use a particular site often and every time I type the url into my browser and hit enter.............. I cringe! Doh, that url has a 10 second flash intro on it and no button to get out of it.... I know I can save the url that is passed the flash, well I have, I'm just a fast typist and by the time I've hit enter its too late. Come on people, whatever you do "DO NOT use a flashy animated intro page for your website. Its annoying, its hateful and its taking me longer to get to what I need. it stands to reason doesn't it... technology means we don't have to wait... send an email and receive an email... instantly.... so why make your clients wait to see your webpage. Switching to VOIP is one of the best things we ever did, we have more functionality, more autonomy and less expense. We now have all business lines, fax lines and 0800 lines on VOIP and all is working well. Don't get me wrong there are a few pitfalls especially if you live in a area or spot that doesn't receive fast broadband. No matter what the providers say, sometimes your broadband speed is absolutely shocking. I've been lucky enough to have very good broadband speeds. The lines and delivery aside, you also need to think about what type of system you are going to use. You could spend a fortune on a pabx style system to run all your voip lines but if you don't need that we have a very easy system that we have setup offering great functionality thanks to NCH.  My latest great find on the internet is ThinkFree an office suite that offers documents, spreadsheets and presentations. What's more it collaborates with your desktop. Open a file on your desktop, save it to the synchronised files and it's available in your online workspace. What makes this application even better is the price... you can use the services free for a time with limits or purchase for a very competitive price, approximately $70 NZD for a single desktop.  Stacy from Virtual Moxie blogged about dot connectors, those VA's that hear a need from what is said and not said. What I have to add to this is that those that hear also achieve and lead. Doesn't matter if you are a VA or not there is a clear distinction between a person who can do this and those that can't. Those that can't should be in more defined roles. Those that are need to be in roles that give goals to be achieved because these people will achieve. Quite simply these people have the traits of a 'Leader', a 'do-er', a 'task-orientated-person', and so on. So if you are one of these people, then you fit the bill for a VA amongst other things because a VA needs to be able to hear what is said, what isn't said, what is required, what isn't, what is the goal and what will achieve the goal, what will be required long term and so on. Want to pimp your photo? Visit PikiPimp.  For some months now I've been receiving an email newsletter from a fairly prominent recruitment company here in Christchurch. The first time I received the newsletter I replied politely that I could show them around the content manager for formatting, give them a few tips and tricks so that when they email the newsletter out, it looks great and people want to read it. Well, no reply and I guess when you receive an email like that you don't want to reply.... But surely you could get over it and do something about it because lets face it you just received some great feedback and an offer of assistance that won't break the bank. Some months on now and I still receive the newsletter and its still in the same format and I have to chuckle... it really is terrible. Would you walk into a sales meeting in a crinkled white shirt and stained trousers. No! Well, why send out a newsletter that looks like a poor 2nd, 3rd, 4th or so on. If you are going to send out an e-newsletter or any newsletter for that matter... do it well. If you haven't the ability to create a nice template with images, then use a text template. Not only are these text emails effective they are more likely to get through spam catchers. So not only do you need to ensure your wording is readable, you need to ensure your layout is the best possible for more readership of your newsletter.
